Circe-Book Review

35959740In the house of Helios, god of the sun and mightiest of the Titans, a daughter is born. But Circe is a strange child—not powerful, like her father, nor viciously alluring like her mother. Turning to the world of mortals for companionship, she discovers that she does possess power—the power of witchcraft, which can transform rivals into monsters and menace the gods themselves.

Threatened, Zeus banishes her to a deserted island, where she hones her occult craft, tames wild beasts and crosses paths with many of the most famous figures in all of mythology, including the Minotaur, Daedalus and his doomed son Icarus, the murderous Medea, and, of course, wily Odysseus.

But there is danger, too, for a woman who stands alone, and Circe unwittingly draws the wrath of both men and gods, ultimately finding herself pitted against one of the most terrifying and vengeful of the Olympians. To protect what she loves most, Circe must summon all her strength and choose, once and for all, whether she belongs with the gods she is born from, or the mortals she has come to love.

MY THOUGHTS

“But in a solitary life, there are rare moments when another soul dips near yours, as stars once a year brush the earth. Such a constellation was he to me.”

When Circe came out it was everywhere so I ignored it back then, I like Greek mythology, Though I hadn’t read any book before, I want to read PJ, Hopefully, this year. Then It won GR award so I decided to give it a chance and it was my last read of 2018.

It won’t be a lengthy review. I accept it is not a book you should read first if you are a beginner in the mythology world. I love the writing, Author effortlessly draws the world with all those vivid details, I must say writing has the power to entrap you.

“He showed me his scars, and in return he let me pretend that I had none.”

It is the story of Circe daughter of Helios from her POV, we see so many characters stories come and go and it was really interesting for me to see the stories of famous gods from a different POV.

She is a character for whom you feel. She is lonely, flawed, loving, caring, daring, rebel and much more still I found her better than many other gods.

I love her character development from her childhood to end, More I read about her more I liked her.

“Humbling women seems to me a chief pastime of poets. As if there can be no story unless we crawl and weep.”

If you are a greek mythology fan then you should give it a try.

I loved your review! I’ve read so many Circe reviews that are lengthy and it puts me off because I can’t seem to prepare myself for a heavy read lately. I’m glad you enjoyed and related to it so much.
