Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme brought to you by That Artsy Reader Girl. It was previously hosted at The Broke and the Bookish.
This week’s topic is actually Books I Decided to DNF Too Quickly, I don’t regret after DNFing a book so I don’t waste my time on thinking was it quickly or not. Instead, I am doing the books I DNFed and happy to do it + the books I wish I had DNFed but didn’t (this is my worst nightmare to torture myself to read a book still end up hating it).
This topic was on my future post lists, kind of discussion so let’s do it.
Books I decided to DNF and I am not Guilty
5 of these are the books I DNFed this year, I decided to avoid DNFing books and I was pretty good at it until April when I met a book which destroyed all of my plans of avoiding DNFing, I realised that I read for pleasure, escape from the reality and problems and If I am still facing these things in a book or while reading a book what is even the purpose of my reading…Books should make me happy not torture me or cause me any problem…I had this 20 pages policy where I don’t get in a book I used to DNF it but this year, I decided that I’ll DNF each and every book which is making me unhappy (not in positive ways) because If I am torturing myself to read a book when I am not even liking it then what is the purpose of my reading, despite how much I read it 20% or 80% it doesn’t matter.
Here’s the list of books I DNFed Recently and three of these are ARCs.
Books I wish I had DNFed
Everyone who follows my Reviews already knows how I feel about these books and Why I regret.
Today I am going to discuss Last Prince of Alkebulahn, I never discussed this book before, and yes this is the book which made me DNFed books again so wow I just found the first positive thing about it.
I read it in April, I received a Physical copy of this for a blog tour, It is hard to find words which explain how much I hate this book, this book is so long and so lame, I tried hard and hard to finish it, I read it, I skimmed it, I cried, I shouted, I fought with my siblings on petty things and finally I finished it.
This book actually tortured me, terrorized me, I still dread to think about it…How I finished that thing…I was so in terror I didn’t even write a Review for it after 2 months the first time I am talking about it. I was in such a bad mood when I was reading it that my mother told me to DNF this book she was like if it is that bad and you are in such a bad mood for days just leave it…This book is my WORST NIGHTMARE.
Have you ever read a book which you consider as a Nightmare?
Do you have any DNFing Policy?

Interesting post :). I have only read one of these (All the Bright Places) which I actually really loved. Nightmarish books I have DNFed lately are 806, Down in the Belly of the Whale & Made You Up and I wish I had DNFed Amanda Noble #Zoolife. 3/4 of these were eArcs which is kind of concerning.

Thank you…All the Bright places is kind of controversial book, some loved it some didn’t…I don’t think there is something between these two emotions 😀

Mortal Instruments are on my DNF list too. I’ve never had a series make me so angry. And Clary is a complete idiot.

I have this thing where I start a book and I just have to read it right through even if I’m hating it. Quite often at the end I think, ‘well that’s a few days I’ll never get back.’

It is so brave of you, It become so difficult for me to continue a book while hating it.

Beast is on my TBR and I have such high hopes for that book.. But I read a lot of negative reviews and I’m afraid it won’t be that good..

I have not read any of these. I have rarely DNF’ed a book. The most recent was actually an audiobook and I really couldn’t stand it.

It is so great of you…Which audio book was that?

It was called Fame Is A Killer. 🙂

Before I started my blog, I DNF’d all of 3 books in my life. I was pretty much just reading best sellers and books with loads of great reviews, so it makes sense. Now, I’m lucky if I can go a whole week without deciding to DNF something.

Same here, I don’t think I ever DNF’d a book before blogging life, Now the biggest risk is ARCs we don’t know what are we going into…Thank you for sharing, it is a relief to know I am not the only one 😁

I’ve read a few of these, and some of them I truly struggled to finish. Like If I Stay. It took me a YEAR. A YEAR to finish this book. The movie is great. I didn’t care for the book. And I’m reading Beast for a reading challenge. Hopefully I like it.

I skimmed most of the If I stay, I watched the movie and it was kind of ok, and most of the time books are better than movies but there wasn’t that case. Hopefully you’ll like the Beast 🙂

If I have a book I WISHED I DNFed as well, it would be All the Bright Places, the book, the ending killed me. Depressed people should NOT read it.
As for my DNF policy, I used to not DNF, but as I mature as a reader, I’m now okay DNfing because there are millions of great books out there worth my time. 🙂 🙂

The ending was a disaster, I don’t know why the provoke depression in name of depression awareness…Exactly why waste time on book when there is whole new world waiting for you 🙂

AGREE!!!… The writing was good though, the plot just wasn’t for me.

I wish I DNFed Luckiest Girl Alive, I read it around two years ago and I’m upset that I wasted time on it 😂. Life is too short to read things you don’t enjoy, great post 😀

Great post! I have only had a few books that I’ve considered DNFing since starting my blog, but I just haven’t gotten myself to do it. I really should create some type of DNF policy so that I don’t feel bad about not finishing a book.

Thank you girl…You should make a DNF policy, we read for pleasure not for regrets 🙂

I find it so hard to DNF a book regardless of how little I’m enjoying it. It’s one of those things I struggle with. I’ve read a few books that I struggled with at the start but that got much better towards the end and ended up loving them. It’s those books that make it so hard for me to DNF. I keep waiting for the book to convince me I was wrong about it. Some do, some don’t.

It is so determined of you, I just trust my instincts and sometime Goodreads reviews and ratings.

Apart from the two Mortal Instruments books, I’ve not read any of them. Such a shame when a book doesn’t live up to your expectations. I think we’ve all been there.

It could be better as a trilogy but last 2 books destroyed it completely.

If I am 25% into a book and absolutely not enjoying it, I will mark it as DNF. I used to never do this, but there are too many books on my TBR book to torture myself with a book I don’t enjoy.

Exactly….That is the point 🙂

It’s hard for me to not finish a book, but sometimes you just have to cut your losses. I struggled through a book in May, but I finished it!

A few years ago I decided to be OK with DNFing books I wasn’t enjoying. And I totally understand the regret of not DNFing a book that I should have! I even have Goodreads shelf called Books I Abandoned or Wish I Had. The Eyre Affair and A Court of Thorns and Roses are two of the top books from that list.

I also have a shelf on Goodreads for all the DNF books 😁
